Brief History
Atlantic Surf Co was started in Table View by Anton Fourie in 1995. The shop was small but we had a passion for what we did and loved it. If was so full of stock you could hardly move, but we had a joll!
Atlantic Surf Today
Atlantic Surf Co has come a long way since its humble beginnings.
We are one of the very few real surf shops left in Cape Town. We make Fury Surf/Kite and Sup boards in store and offer a very professional repair service for all craft. Atlantic Surf specialises in wetsuits and is currently one of the leading wetsuit stores in the country. The Atlantic Surf school has a wide offering from Holiday clubs, Team building, surf parties and surf lessons.
Anton
Anton started paddle skiing in 1976 at Big Bay. (Back then they used rugby jerseys and beaver tail diving suits for warmth !) He started surfing in 1981 and saw windsurfing for the first time. He became totally hooked on windsurfing after hooking into the harness for the first time and feeling the acceleration of the board. He fell in love with the ocean and spent as much time in it as he could. Anton studied personnel management for four years and started the Fury Surfboard factory in Cape Town in 1987 during this time. He’s shaped and laminated thousands of surfboards, windsurf boards and paddleskies. Anton is still still as passionate about shaping and making boards, passing on the stock of surfing and educating customers about our amazing culture as the day he started…
Surfboards and repairs
We have been making Fury Surf Boards since 1988 where we started in a factory in Rose Street. We started off with making surfboards, but soon branched out to windsurfers, paddle ski’s and kneeboards. The factory was also very well know for the quality of repairs we did for our customers.
We never stopped making boards and when we moved to the shop in 1995 we started shaping the Fury boards in a container at the back of the shop. Today the container is being used for high quality repairs and as a spray booth, and you will find the shaping bay inside the shop where we shape Fury surfboards, Sups, Kite boards etc. We use the knowledge we gained over the 30 years to make Polyester and Epoxy boards and doing high quality repairs in house.
